Last October 1, the Class of 1998 led by Manila Science High School Alumni Foundation, Inc. (MSHSAFI/MaSci Foundation) Board of Trustees (BOT) Member Dr. Margarita Huerte hosted this year’s MaSci Medics Health Check at the MSHS Bordner Building.
Fifty-six former and current teachers and staff were provided with comprehensive medical screenings that included comprehensive lab workup (complete blood count, HbA1c, fasting blood sugar, cholesterol, liver and kidney function tests, urinalysis, 12-lead ECG, and chest X-ray), bone density screening, OB-GYN exams (Pap smear and breast exam), and complete ophthalmology check.
Batch 1998 is grateful to the following companies and individuals who made the event possible:
– Natrapharm, AstraZeneca, and MaSci Foundation BOT Member Dr. Regina Bartolome (1980);
– Batch 1998’s very own doctors;
– Dr. Aileen A. Bautista and Dr. Jen Mary Chan Peñalosa for the meds;
– Dr. Ralph Dennis Vicente and Cathay Drug for the bone scan examination;
– LRI Therapharma and Servier for the meds and food pledges;
– Color One Digital Graphics for the prescription pads and the tarpaulin standees; and
– Manila Doctors Hospital Departments of OB-GYN and Ophthalmology for extending a helping hand with their own Resident Doctors in the pap smear and eye exams.
Batch 1997’s Oplan Pagtutulak (OP) partnered with Batch 1998 to continue its commitment to provide free medicines for retired MaSci teachers and staff. Through the generous Batch 1997 donors, OP raised over PhP 50,000 in time for this year’s event — and that amount was used to purchase 90-day supply of maintenance medicines and pharmacy gift certificates. Peter Paulo Pelayo and MaSci Foundation BOT Member Zorayda Zordilla represented the OP team on site, while fellow batchmates Atty. Evangeline Austria-De Los Santos, Faye Bautista, Lino Borsoto, Dr. Jude Espejo, Synon Harris Relos, Russel Solis, and MaSci Foundation BOT Member Lieza Danan, Ph.D. have been working behind the scenes for two years in a row to make such assistance possible. Atty. Kristine Eugenio, Rodolfo Evaristo, Jr., Dr. Karen Taboada-Pablo, the MaSci Riders, and numerous anonymous donors have also helped OP continue its mission.
The event was not only an opportunity for the alumni to express their gratitude and appreciation for their former teachers and school staff, but it was also a chance for everyone to reconnect and catch up.
