Dear Fellow Alumni,
Our alma mater faces serious challenges, ranging from insufficient resources (financial, curricular, teaching tools and techniques, lab equipment, etc.) to occasional entanglements with the local government and the Deped Division Office.
Despite these challenges, the students have struggled to maintain the standards that stakeholders, especially alumni, have come to expect from them. They have won contest after contest and reaped honors for the school.
However, you may also know that MaSci has not placed in the top ten of most academic rankings. This emphasizes that there is much room for improvement.
There is no shortage of alumni offers of support, many of whom have asked the school administration what the most urgent need is and how they can help. However, the administration needs help identifying and prioritizing the school's needs to maximize possible support. There is also a need for a common platform or avenue through which the alumni can channel support and ensure proper accounting and accountability.
Meanwhile, the MSHS Alumni Foundation Inc. provides financial assistance to deserving but needy MaScians, although scholarship funds may be depleted in a few years. The Foundation is also pursuing the passage of a city ordinance that will grant MaSci special science status and hopefully ensure continuous funding for the school under a curriculum that emphasizes math and science.
Considering these circumstances, the Foundation wishes to meet with all alumni batches to organize alumni support and develop a strategy to ensure sustainability. We hope that at least one representative from your batch can join the meeting on July 13 (Saturday), 9:00AM at the new MaSci building. Please let the Foundation know how many from your batch will attend by sending your confirmation to mlorenzo@mascialumnifdn.org so that appropriate preparations can be made for the meeting.
Thank you very much, and we hope to see you on July 13.
Sincerely
The MaSci Board of Trustees 2024
